A major €2.75m investment in rural renewal has been unveiled with the launch of the Maximising Community Space (MCS) Project, a transformative initiative designed to support community organisations and people that manage halls, facilities and community spaces that bring people together.
A significant €2.75 million investment in rural renewal has been announced with the launch of the Maximising Community Space (MCS) Project, a new cross-border initiative aimed at strengthening community facilities and the organisations that manage them.
Launched at Lough Shore Marina Centre in Ballyronan, the programme is supported through PEACEPLUS and led by Rural Action in partnership with Irish Rural Link and the Northern Ireland Rural Women’s Network.
The MCS project will support rural communities—including those across Cavan and the wider border region—to make better use of their community spaces by improving inclusivity, sustainability, and access to essential services. Participating organisations will benefit from targeted training, networking opportunities, and practical supports designed to enhance long-term viability and increase income potential.
A key focus of the initiative is fostering collaboration across communities, encouraging shared learning and stronger cross-border connections. The programme also places a strong emphasis on inclusive leadership, including supporting more women into leadership roles within rural organisations.
The project will engage up to 40 community organisations from Northern Ireland and border counties including Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Louth, Donegal, and Sligo.
Expressions of interest are now open, with applications closing on 19 June 2026. Community groups interested in participating can find further details at www.ruralaction.co.
This initiative represents a valuable opportunity for rural communities to enhance their local spaces as hubs for connection, learning, and innovation—aligning closely with Cavan Connects’ ongoing work to support vibrant, digitally inclusive communities.
