Cavan Connects Innovation Conference showcases digital creativity, collaboration and future skills
Cavan Connects Innovation Conference, held on 26 and 27 May 2026, brought together educators, innovators, community organisations and technology partners for two days of ideas, demonstrations and practical digital engagement in County Cavan. The event placed a strong spotlight on the DS3 project and showcased how collaboration across local authorities, education and community partners can widen access to digital skills and creative technologies.
The conference featured keynote speakers Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor John Paul Feeley, and Niamh Smyth TD, Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation. Their participation highlighted the importance of leadership, collaboration and investment in digital innovation, community development and future-focused skills across the region.
A central feature of the event was the promotion of the Mobile Fablab from Leitrim County Council, which demonstrated the potential of mobile digital making spaces to reach communities, inspire innovation and support hands-on learning. The conference also highlighted the multimedia lab from Ulster University, including podcasting sessions that gave participants practical experience in digital storytelling, communication and content creation.
The exhibition area also featured a stand from Cavan Digital Hub and Cavan Local Enterprise, highlighting the support available to local entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses looking to grow, innovate and connect with new opportunities.
The event formed part of a wider programme of support for innovation and community development, with the agenda also referencing PEACEPLUS-supported activity and local partnership involvement. Across both days, attendees engaged with a varied programme covering robotics, AI, wearable innovation, digital creativity and emerging technologies. Cavan Connects 2026 demonstrated how the DS3 project is helping connect communities with the tools, confidence and opportunities needed to participate fully in the digital future.
