Connective Detective Workshop

Looking Back at 2024: A Highlight from Curravagh NS

One of the standout moments of 2024 for Cavan Connects was the inspiring “Connective Detective” workshop held at Curravagh National School. This event was part of the prestigious STEM programmeAcademy of the Near Future, and Curravagh NS was thrilled to be among the schools selected to participate.

Academy of the Near Future

On the 17th and 18th of April, Dr. Ann Devitt and Clara Butz from Trinity College Dublin brought their expertise and enthusiasm to the school, guiding students through an engaging and transformative learning experience.

Using a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) project-based learning approach, the programme aimed to equip students with essential digital skills while fostering their sense of agency as global citizens. The Connective Detective workshop was an activity that took students on a journey through the history of communication. They explored how people have connected with one another across the ages, gaining a deeper understanding of the evolution of technology and its impact on society.

The enthusiasm and engagement of the students were truly remarkable, reflecting the success of the workshop in sparking curiosity and creativity. None of this would have been possible without the dedicated efforts of Tara Scott, Principal of Curravagh NS, whose support and vision helped bring this opportunity to life.

As we look back on 2024, moments like this highlight the importance of nurturing curiosity and innovation in our schools. They remind us of the vital role education plays in preparing young learners to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Special thanks to Dr. Ann Devitt, Clara Butz, and Trinity College Dublin for their incredible contributions, and to Tara Scott for her leadership and commitment to enriching her students' learning experiences.
