Cavan Students at the 2025 BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition
This January, the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) once again showcased Ireland’s brightest young minds, with Cavan students making a strong impression. Held at the RDS in Dublin, the 61st annual BTYSTE celebrated exceptional talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), featuring over 1,000 innovative projects.

Virginia College
Balancing the Scales! This project explored public attitudes toward the fairness of using Ozempic for weight loss compared to dieting.
Serene Studies! Aimed at helping students with sensory issues, this project used noise-cancelling headphones and a microphone to enhance classroom learning.

Waste to Watts: Investigating microbial fuel cells for renewable energy in developing countries.
Beyond the Binary: A survey-based analysis of societal attitudes toward transgender athletes in competitive sports.
Wild(Mix) Attraction: Examining how flower traits in wildflower mixes influence pollinator preferences.

Talamh Dubh: Developing a more efficient and durable charcoal retort for home use.
Breifne College
SmartMart: Creating a website to map shop layouts for easier navigation.
Loreto College
Period Pain Relief Strategies: Analyzing attitudes and methods for managing period pain and the overuse of paracetamol.
Inspiration and Opportunities
Attendees engaged in workshops and talks by leading experts, including research scientist Robin Dale, who inspired students with insights into STEM careers. The exhibition also provided invaluable networking opportunities with industry and academic representatives.
