Virtualising Community Hubs

Launch of Virtualising Ireland’s BCPs with Navit

On March 10th, 2025, CO:WORKS in Edgeworthstown hosted the official launch of the innovative project to virtualise Ireland’s Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) using Navit. This initiative aims to transform the visitor experience by providing a comprehensive virtual visitor portal that is user-friendly and rich in content.

Navit stands as the most advanced virtual visitor portal available, specifically designed to assist visitors in preparing for their physical visits to our facilities. With features such as videos, images, audio, branding, and welcome narrations, Navit allows visitors to explore internal rooms and offices virtually, offering a preview of the space, atmosphere, accessibility, and navigation before their arrival.

The project has already demonstrated success through a trial in Cavan, where the Cavan Connects Digital Hubs showcased Navit’s potential. Building on this success, the proposal now extends to 50 sites across local authorities.

Key Responsibilities of the Subgroup

Our dedicated subgroup, comprising members from various counties, will oversee the following actions:

  • Selection of the 50 sites to be virtualised.

  • Selection of five sites for Navit to visit and guide through the mapping process, with other sites to be completed by BBO or nominated resources.

  • Organising shared cameras throughout the 50 sites.

  • Organising site visits as required.

Looking Ahead

The launch event at CO:WORKS was a resounding success, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead. With Navit’s cutting-edge technology, we are confident that this project will significantly enhance the visitor experience across Ireland’s BCPs.

Stay tuned for updates as we progress with the virtualisation of these sites and continue to innovate in the realm of visitor experience.
