Fibre Rollout Underway Near Ballyconnell

High-Speed Broadband Coming to 1,700 More Cavan Premises

Residents and businesses near Ballyconnell are set to benefit from a major digital upgrade. National Broadband Ireland (NBI) has commenced construction to bring high-speed fibre broadband to nearly 1,700 homes, farms, and businesses in the Bawnboy deployment area, which includes Ballyconnell, Bawnboy, and Ardue.

This is part of the Government’s National Broadband Plan (NBP), which is investing €65 million in County Cavan to deliver future-proofed, high-speed internet to rural communities.

What’s Happening?

  • Construction is underway in the Bawnboy area.
  • 17,000 premises in Cavan are included in the NBP’s Intervention Area.
  • Minimum speeds of 500 Mbps will be delivered to homes, schools, farms, and businesses.

Where Can You Connect Now?

Currently, 13,971 premises across Cavan can order or pre-order high-speed broadband, with 4,242 already connected. Areas such as Kilnaleck and Cootehill are already seeing the benefits of fibre connectivity.

Broadband Connection Points (BCPs)

While the fibre rollout continues, Broadband Connection Points are already providing free high-speed internet access at key community locations. In Cavan, these include:

  • Kill Gaelic Football Club
  • Cornafean Community Centre
  • Kildallan Parish Hall

Primary schools in the Intervention Area are also connected for educational access.
